Casey Kasem Kids Sue His Widow In Wrongful Death Lawsuit
Casey Kasem’s children are suing his widow in a wrongful death lawsuit.
As Gossip Cop reported, the iconic radio personality died on Father’s Day 2014 at age 82 from complications of Lewy Body Dementia. In the months before his death, there was a drawn-out legal battle over his care. Kasem’s adult children from his previous marriage repeatedly clashed with his wife, Jean Kasem, when it came to medical treatment and visitation. Even following his passing, the two sides were in dispute over where the “American Top 40” host should be buried.
On Wednesday, Kasem’s children Kerri, Julie and Michael joined his surviving brother Mouner Kasem in a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court. Jean, named as the defendant, is accused of elder abuse and the infliction of emotional distress. According to the Associated Press, the legal documents specifically allege, “Casey’s early death occurred as a direct and proximate result of Jean’s neglect and physical abuse of Casey.”
The family chose to file the suit after prosecutors declined to file elder abuse charges against Jean in May. They are asking for at least $250,000 for pain and suffering. Kerri, however, tells the AP, “We would rather see her in jail than receive one dime. We don’t care about the money. We care about justice.”
