Casey Affleck opened his “SNL” monologue with how he was excited to how the Christmas show but was surprised he was chosen. He then talked about how much he loves Christmas, but was not going to sing about it, as music began to play. Next, he was joined by Alec Baldwin, John Goodman and Black Santa. See the video below of Affleck’s “Saturday Night Live” monologue.

This marks Affleck’s debut as the host of “Saturday Night Live.” His older brother Ben, of course, is a member of the “SNL” five-timers club, having hosted the sketch comedy show in 2000, twice in 2004, and then again in 2008 and 2013.

Casey Affleck’s appearance on “Saturday Night Live” comes a month after the release of his critically acclaimed new movie, Manchester By The Sea. On Sunday, he won the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of a man who, after his brother dies, is given guardianship of his teenage nephew. And the recognition for Affleck’s work continued this past week. On Monday, he was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor, and on Wednesday he similarly scored a SAG Award nod for Best Actor.
