“The Voice” isn’t the only show that featured a stellar Adele cover this week.

On Wednesday’s “X Factor,” Carly Rose Sonenclar took on the Grammy-winning song “Rolling the Deep” — and killed it.

“I’m going to tell you something you already know: You are insanely talented,” L.A. Reid told her.

And while he thought that this wasn’t Sonenclar’s very best performance, he pointed out that “even your second is better than everyone else’s first best.”

Demi Lovato admitted, “I’m not even your mentor and I feel proud of you… I got nothing. You’re so good!”

Simon Cowell was particularly wowed by the second half, calling it “sensational.”

“I believe, outside of this show, that you as a 13-year-old can sell records,” Cowell continued, before going on to joke, “The only problem we have, that we’ve established, is that you’re not human. And you may have to be disqualified from this competition.”

Sonenclar’s mentor, Britney Spears, said they knew it would be a “challenge” to cover an artist like Adele, but explained, “we really wanted to take a risk to bring you to the next level of the competition and I think that’s what we did.”

She may be a good singer, but her performance was completely unbelievable. A 13-year-old has no concept about the pain caused by a crappy boyfriend. That pain makes the song something more and what makes Adele amazing.

She doesnt have to stop singing anything..shes amazing “feeling the pain or not”..can you imagine this girl in 5-10 years..you can tell the judges are reluctent to praise her..she completely obliterates the other contestants.. #truth..I wish they would quit calling her an alien..really.

Adele was barely 20 when she wrote the thing, so I don’t subscribe to that notion. As someone who has been 20, I submit that at that age, you still don’t really know what heartache or emotional pain can be; your perceptions are completely different. As far as emoting and “feeling” while singing — hell, any good singer can imagine the pain of a stubbed big toe and translate that into the song — including a thirteen-year-old singer.

In another ten years, Adele’s current work will seem young and naive to everyone, including herself. What makes Adele amazing at her age is her innate talent and her vocal control –not her “concept” of pain. Same with this girl. Give it another 20 years, and then they’ll be really phenomenal singers with depth and breadth they don’t have now.

It depends on the 1113 year old. Some older women couldn’t connect with it. Not a question of years. Experience and feelings. Anne Frank was 13 (14?) and she had it. One of her last remarks in the Camp was when watching the gypsy children going down the street to the ovens, “Their eyes, Look at their eyes!” If you have ever known gypsy children their eyes areextraordinary. Of course Anne Frank went to Montessori schools and this had a great influence on her sensations and perceptions.

Granted, there are some exceptions where age is irrelevant. Growing up under a fascist regime and threat of death can often force a young girl to grow up and confront adult issues much sooner than she would had she evolved as a regular kid in Amsterdam. But she wasn’t, and she didn’t. We’ll never know if she would have pursued a career as a writer had what actually happened, not happened.

OK what’s your answer to Mozart and Chopin, Emily Bronte then? And let’s see…… shall I go on? It quite depends on the culture and the family you grow up in and your experiences rather than your age. Anne Frank didn’t grow up in Nazi Germany or Amsterdam, she spent her early teen years in an attic. She lived rather normally for her time in Frankfurt and then Amsterdam and went into hiding for 2 was it 3 years? Sshe had an excellent education before and during. I just object to that sort of generalizing based on age concerning children. How about this very young female chess champion who beat all the men champions. She was 8 yes? And Dakota Fanning and Elle Fanning.

I think you’re just arguing for the sake of arguing. I said there were exceptions, for one thing. For another, she didn’t have a normal childhood, and indeed DID grow up during the Nazi regime and was affected by it. See: Secret Annex. Which was in Amsterdam. Her education up until confinement was indeed very good, but that development was obviously changed and impeded by two years of hiding from the Gestapo.

I do not consider these circumstances generalizations; they’re quite specific. Nor was I generalizing based on age. Try reading what I’ve written before you start lashing at me with your wet noodles, please.

Her father gave her a good education in the Annex. Writing the Diary was part of it, even though it was private. I guess I tangle with you because your thinking is so conventional.

  • Irish Girl

I think it’s hilarious that you think I think it was conventional.

  • http://twilightirruption.blogspot.com/ abbeysbooks

That’s not what I said. I didn’t say that I think you think IT was conventional. I said your THINKING is conventional, so I need to just let you be.
