WATCH: Carly Rose Sonenclar Stuns with “Imagine” on X Factor

(YouTube)

Carly Rose Sonenclar appeared to cement her frontrunner status on Wednesday’s “X Factor,” where she took on one of the most beloved songs of all time.

Playing the piano, the 13-year-old sang John Lennon’s “Imagine” and proved that she has more than just a stellar voice in her arsenal.

“What I love is that you’ve taken your artistic credibility up one notch by playing the piano,” L.A. Reid told her, also commending the difficult song choice.

“You always go in and find that [high] note, don’t you?” he added.

Demi Lovato, who earlier in the episode worried about Sonenclar becoming predictable, declared, “The only predictable thing about that performance was that it was going to be amazing.”

“[You] sounded really beautiful,” she continued. ”Loved that you took a risk.”

And while Simon Cowell thought the arrangement was “overcomplicated,” Sonenclar’s mentor Britney Spears disagreed.

“It is time for you to go beyond this stage and compete with the biggest stars in the world,” she told her contestant.

She was so amazing and I did not agree with Simon

  • C

I like Carly a lot. IMO, Simon is showing his biased opinion by only talking positively about his apprentices. I’m not liking this mentor thing because it’s not impartial.

  • petsie

perhaps Simon’s right. Anyway, it’s a matter of taste. I adored her playing the piano and singing as beautifully as she always does. Hope she can be number 1 tonight again!

  • Deborah

The show belongs to Carly. What an amazing voice and presence

  • petsie

Yep, he’d had nothing to say about Carly’s performance so he had to comment on the arrangement… She is incredibly gifted!

You Americans can be very proud of Carly Rose. SHE has a great talent and deserves to win Just remember to VOTE for her

  • Dt

I agree with you. Her performance was beautiful. The mentoring influences the voters at home too much too.

  • ImagineFan

I like her singing and she deserves to be in the final – but that was not a great arrangement of Imagine and she left out an entire verse – the verse I think is critical to the song:

    Imagine there’s no countries
    It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
    And no religion too
    Imagine all the people
    Living life in peace…

Because Living life in peace is how “the world will be as one”

When Terry McDermott did “Let It Be” on the Voice, he nailed that. These are hard iconic songs. Carly is a great singer, just not a great performance.

  • Barb_CA

I personally enjoyed her performance tonight. I think what I enjoy the most about Carly is each week every song is sung with her own interpretation. So far NO other contestant has done this week after week song after song. I hope America votes for talent, not because someone is cute or “gee what will I do if I go home to no job” Please vote for who has the XFactor .. Vote for Carly

  • deeeeep

I do not think that it was stunning. But it was good and she should win the show.

  • Winnie

    She’s gifted.

  • Winnie

I like the comments given by her mentor, She’s the top contestant.

  • Steven

Carly is truly gifted and must win. Tate talkes about no job, thats wrong he will be on the CMA and win that. He is trying get your vote , and its not right for Carly.

  • Steven

Tates pity vote is now way to win .I don’t pity him . Vote Carly

I agree that her John Lennon song was risky as it was low for her voice and is a difficult song to live up to in the minds of those who idolize the songwriter still. Personally, I thought it was inventive, but again, slow and introspective, like her other many songs. Predictability is indicative to the style she is comfortable singing. Who knows how that will affect her winning since voters are fickle? I know I was glad to know the results when I picked up my DISH coworker for work the next morning because he “forgets” I don’t watch live, and he blabs who left. I have a DISH Hopper Whole-Home HD DVR which saves me time because I watch X Factor while I’m getting ready for work. I can start in the bedroom, pause and then continue in the kitchen and living room, right where I left off. I watch more TV now than I used to when I had to find time to set aside, which is difficult with a busy family.
