Carly Rae Jepsen Drops Out Of Boy Scouts Concert Over Ban On Gays

Carly Rae Jepsen has canceled her appearance at a Boy Scouts of America concert over the group’s ban on openly gay members.

The “Call Me Maybe” singer was slated to perform at the National Scout Jamboree in July, but announced her decision to bail on Tuesday.

“As an artist who believes in equality for all people, I will not be participating in the Boy Scouts of America Jamboree this summer,” tweeted Jepsen on Tuesday.

She added, “I always have and will continue to support the LGBT community on a global level and stay informed on the ever changing landscape in the ongoing battle for gay rights in this country and across the globe.”

There’s been no response yet from the Boy Scouts.

    So say the Boy scouts change their policy. A huge percentage of parents then (rightfully or wrongfully) pull their kids out. Now suddenly the Boy Scouts can’t pay the bills ,go broke, and there is no more Boy Scouts. Well at least a hand full of people could express that they are gay. Way to bully your agenda onto an institution at any cost or should I say with disregard to the cost. Hugely selfish.!!!!!!!!!!

    The Boy Scout’s stand on homosexuals is no secret. She knew darn well where they stood when she signed her contract with them to perform. Now she decides to get preachy and quit. I hope they sue her rear end off.

    I have no problem with chosing not to perform for a given group for any reason. But once you sign that contract, you need to do the job.

    The priests and Scout Leaders that molested those boys were homosexuals. A male desiring to have sexual relations with another male is the definition of homosexual. They may not have been “out”, but they were clearly homosexual. I’m not commenting on this current debate, or implying at all homosexuals are pedophoiles (or pedastrists, which is more accurate in these cases) by any means. But, logically, a straight man is not going to molest another male anymore than a homosexual man is going to molest a female.

    No. Actually that’s not true. There are strong supporting evidence that link those two disorders? together. Obviously, society have become bullied into completely opposite view and no one dare to question mainstream opinion.
    If you go to google, even google books offers some publication that supports that argument. There are number of PhD who publishing and searching more into that subject.
    Generally, theories and facts are brought up by religious groups mainly as everyone else is highly affraid of persecution. What is funny enough,,those who calling for equality are bullying others into certain opinion.
    I study this subject for some time, and I came across work of people who starts challenging overused opinions that becomes facts.
    I can insert link and you may read it for yourself.

    Well, no one said that paedophilia is included in LGTB only.
    But the fact that homosexuals has sister’s organisation of paedophiles that advocating sex under 8 as healthy ( I am sorry I can’t remember their name), does not really prove they are innocent.
    Even Freud believed there is a strong link and if I am correct Dr. Dailey is supporting his agenda.

    Yeah…I’m sorry, but I kind of agree with you here. She should’ve understood their policy before committing to the gig. But I still agree with her reasoning. I just think it’s kind of lame to get those poor Boy Scouts all excited, only to cancel.

    Don’t get me wrong, I’m pro-equality for ALL people and children, especially Boy Scouts, but Ms. Carly should’ve maybe found a better way to make her point than to disappoint a bunch of Boy Scouts.

    Carly Rae is from Canada so she would not have known. This is one of those wacky American things. In Canada, like other civilized Scouting nations, the Scout program has remained non-denominational as envisioned by its British founder, Baden Powell. They do not exclude gay men and gay teens in Canada, France, Mexico, Australia, the UK (where Scouting was founded), or elsewhere. Only in the USA with our disproportionate population of Christian fundamentalists has this been a problem. The ban was implemented in 1992 mainly under Mormon pressure.

    I am grateful to Carly Rae, Train, and others for standing up to discrimination. It is through such actions that change happens.

    I hope and expect that BSA will make the right decision in May and end the ban.
    If not they risk continuing their trajectory towards becoming the Boy Scouts of Conservative Christians rather than the Boy Scouts of America. Once the ban is lifted it will be a total non-issue and the fears of the right-wing will not materialize at all, just as happened with the military.

    Gay men in fact are less likely to be pedophiles than heterosexually married men Most of the abusers in the BSA’s secret files were married to women, a la Sandusky.

    We are a married two-dad family. We are both former Scouts and this ban is personally painful for us and to our kids, especially when we see lies and ignorance spread.

    I don’t want my son or daughter abused any more than anyone else. I would only feel comfortable with proper controls in place. In fact, since its scandals the BSA has belatedly put rigorous controls in place and does NOT now allow any adult, male or female, to be alone with a boy.

    Moreover both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are today mixed gender groups: Men can volunteer with Girl Scouts and women can volunteer with Boy Scouts. Both groups realize that there must be controls in place that will work regardless of adult sexual orientation.

    The Boy Scouts in other Scouting nations do not exclude gay men or gay teens (e.g. Canada, France, Mexico, Australia, and the UK where they were founded) nor do other groups such as Big Brother/Big Sister. These groups have suffered LESS from abuse problems than the American Boy Scouts, or for that matter the Catholic Church. Perhaps because these latter followed your faulty reasoning: No openly gay men equals no sexual abuse risk.

    I don’t care who the Scoutmaster is married to, I don’t want him (or her) sharing a tent alone with my 12-year-old son (or daughter). Singling out gay men is unfair. If the BSA were to eject a class of men based on public prejudices it could just as easily start with Catholic priests or heterosexually married football coaches. But that
    would be wrong.

    Conservative Christians love to spread this confusion since it supports their own theological hatred of homosexuality. However most Americans now personally know gay people and know that such generalizations are untrue and unfair.

    I am proud that a solid majority of Americans (55% to 33%) now agree that the BSA’s ban against gay men and boys should end. They know that what is best about our nation is that we work together despite our different beliefs. They know that these are not the Boy Scouts of Conservative Christians but the Boy Scouts of America, all of America.
