Carey Mulligan Will Not Play Lisbeth Salander

Carey Mulligan will not play hacker heroine Lisbeth Salander in the U.S. version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

“I can officially quash that rumor once and for all,” the actress said yesterday. “It’s not going to be me. But I’m excited to see it. I love the books and I think it will be great.”

Millions of hooked readers agree — but the Salander role remains open. The roster of actresses currently being mentioned includes Mia Wasikowska, Ellen Page, Emily Browning, Rooney Mara and several others.

Other major talents like Natalie Portman and Kristen Stewart have popped up in ongoing speculation, too.

The film is scheduled for a December 21, 2011 release date.

    My vote goes to Natalie Portman. I think she’d be perfect for the role.

    I would have loved to see CM in the role because she looks like (my idea of ) Salander and has a magnetic onscreen charisma. As for NP I think she is too old (in the book she is mid 20s but looks 14 or 15) so I think they should go for an unknown in the role.

    I think Natalie can defiantly play this character who does have to age over time . Natalie looks younger that her age if you remove the make-up and the red carpet look. That’s how she is able to blend in and live a close to normal life.

    Also remember ht Swedish people voted her as their number one choice, an unknown is to risky and if I were an investor I wold want t0 place my money on a sure thing.
