Candice Glover Wins ‘American Idol’ (VIDEO)
There’s a new “American Idol”! Candice Glover was declared the music competition’s season 12 winner on Thursday’s finale.
The third time proved the charm for the powerhouse vocalist. She had previously auditioned for the series twice before. What a redemption story! Glover beat Kree Harrison in the first girl-versus-girl finale since the show’s third season. The singer promptly broke down in tears as she was swarmed by her fellow contestants.
The judges’ panel and the entire arena were on their feet as Glover performed her coronation single, “I Am Beautiful.” Glover was a particular favorite of judge Nicki Minaj. The rapper would affectionately call the contestant “Candy Cane.” Glover succeeds last year’s season 11 winner, Phillip Phillips. She follows previous female victors, Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia, Carrie Underwood, and Jordin Sparks. Until now, Sparks was the reigning female winner, a position she held since 2007.
Glover, 22, is the oldest of seven kids in her family. She is originally from South Carolina. She’ll soon embarked on the “American Idol” tour, joining the rest of the season 12 Top 10 contestants for concerts around the United States. Like in past years, her win includes a record deal to make her own album. Check out the emotional video below! Are you happy Glover won? NOTE: The video is no longer available.
