Candace Cameron Bure Compares Trolling To “Rape” On “The View” (VIDEO)
Candace Cameron Bure compared online trolling to “rape” on Wednesday’s episode of “The View.” Watch below.
Bure made the comment during a Hot Topics discussion about Lena Dunham, who recently said the hateful comments she received after posting an underwear photo of herself online amounted to “verbal violence.” While Whoopi Goldberg argued that Dunham willingly put herself out there on social media, Raven-Symone noted how some users “come hard at people.” After she called for more respect, Bure agreed and shared her own perspective.
“I’ve never been more verbally abused in my life than on Twitter, and specifically in the last few months, having come on this show,” said Bure, who is the panel’s conservative voice. She then passionately said, “A lot of people don’t agree with me. That’s fine, don’t agree with me. But you don’t have to verbally abuse me and rape me. That’s what they do to me on Twitter.”
Bure’s used of the word “rape” to make her point was not addressed. Rather, new co-host Paula Faris, too, went on to complain about the anonymous criticism she also faces. Goldberg, however, suggested everyone needs to take personal responsibility for creating a society in which people say such cruel things to each other. Still, the moderator eventually copped to also being annoyed by online “attacks.” Check out the full video below, and tell us what you think.
