Nickelodeon announced in late February that Cabello and Machine Gun Kelly would perform their duet, “Bad Things,” during the live awards show. The collaboration was released last October and peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100. It went all the way to number one, though, on both the Mainstream Top 40 and Rhythmic charts.
As Gossip Cop reported this past December, while Cabello performed with Fifth Harmony at Z100’s Jingle Ball, she also took the stage separately to sing with Machine Gun Kelly. Ten days later, Cabello left the girl group to start a solo career. She reunited with Machine Gun Kelly in January to give her first post-5H performance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”
The KCAs now mark Cabello’s first live TV performance since she cut ties with Fifth Harmony. She was actually with her now-former act at last year’s Kids’ Choice Awards, where they won Favorite Music Group. The former “X Factor” contestants also won Favorite New Artist in 2015, and they attended then, too.
For tonight’s 2017 ceremony, 5H was nominated again for Favorite Music Group, as well in the category of Favorite Song for “Work From Home.” And despite Cabello’s presence, the remaining members were still expected to show up, marking the first time they’d all be in the same place since her departure. While Cabello contributed vocals to “Work From Home,” she would not be collecting the award if Fifth Harmony win.
Instead, the night for her is all about “Bad Things,” which isn’t a kid-appropriate song lyrics-wise, but was performed anyway. Watch below!
