Calvin Harris Did NOT “Shade” Taylor Swift Over Spotify, Despite Claim
This baseless story comes from the fabrication factory known as HollywoodLife, which raised the non-issue by asking in a headline, “Calvin Harris Dissing Taylor Swift In Suspicious Instagram? See Pic.” And then, to further get readers’ attention, the site teases, “Did Calvin Harris just shade Taylor Swift? The DJ shared a pic on his Instagram on Dec. 14, but it wasn’t just any old photo. Take a look and tell us if you think he was trying to diss his ex!”
So, what is Harris’ supposedly controversial Instagram post? Well, he shared an image that had text stating, “In 2016, 83.9 million Spotify listeners streamed 10,089 years of Calvin Harris.” The deejay wrote in the caption, “2017 I’m going for 20,000 years thank you for your support.”
It was nothing more than a celebration of his work and an appreciation of his fans. And, obviously, Swift wasn’t mentioned whatsoever. But to HollywoodLies, it’s scandalous. “Of course, it would be totally impossible to forget the battle between Tay Tay and Spotify after she pulled her music from the streaming service in November 2014,” writes the site.
The bad blog goes on to assert, “Calvin has obviously made it a point to share this Instagram about how well his music is doing on Spotify,” and further contends Harris “just reignited the Spotify drama involving” Swift. This is absurd.
Harris highlighting his success with Spotify streams has nothing to do with Swift, who opted to cut ties with the service two years ago not due to a lack of her own success, but because of a dispute over royalties. The two events have absolutely nothing to do with each other, except, of course, for the fact that the performers were once a couple.
That doesn’t mean Harris was “dissing” his ex, and in no way “reignites” Swift’s problems with Spotify. HollywoodLies just manufactured this “shade” story in an attempt to score traffic off fake news. Don’t fall for it.
