Caleb Johnson Gets Standing Ovation After Hilarious Mic Mishap on Idol (VIDEO)
Caleb Johnson didn’t let a pesky microphone mishap prevent him from giving an unbelievable performance on Wednesday’s “American Idol.” As the Top 6 contestant rocked out to “Sting Me” by the Black Crowes, his mic went flying out of his hands and left him crawling on the floor after it.
Johnson made an amazing comeback without missing a beat, and Jennifer Lopez gave the frontrunner an extended standing ovation. “That was some real rock and roll stuff right there!” she told the singer, adding that his flawless reaction to the mic issue “was just the mark of a true performer.”
Keith Urban agreed, saying, “Your recovery of that was killer.” And Harry Connick Jr. told Johnson, “When you take a perfect song choice and you couple that with an incredible performance, it’s virtually impossible to beat. Congratulations.”
Johnson went on to slay it again later in the show, with “Undo It” by Carrie Underwood. Underwood tweeted about the performance afterward, complimenting the singer and his competitor Jena Irene, who also performed one of the season 4 winner’s tracks. “So impressed tonight by both @CalebPJohnson & @JenaAsciutto1 You made my songs sound so good! You should be proud…I know I am,” wrote the former champ.
