Caitlyn Jenner: “I Want To Help The Republican Party”
Caitlyn Jenner opened up about being a transgender Republican during an LGBT-themed event at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland on Wednesday morning. During the Q&A, the reality star admitted that she wanted to “help the Republican Party” better understand issues pertaining to the LGBT community.
“It was easy to come out as trans. It was harder for me to come out as Republican,” Jenner joked during an event dubbed the “Big Tent Brunch.” The former Olympian and lifelong Republican has been open about her support for the party, but acknowledged on Wednesday that she’s been “disappointed” with the party’s platform over the past decade.
“I want to help the Republican party in so many ways,” Jenner said. “I think our best move to get back to a constitutional government is in the Republican party. I won’t give up hope on it.” A staunch advocate of LGBT rights, Jenner further expressed her frustration with those Republican legislators who’ve passed bills restricting transgender bathroom use. Jenner noted that more Republican politicians have been arrested for committing lascivious acts in public restrooms than trans people, adding, “Maybe we should ban Republican representatives at the state level from being in bathrooms.”
As Gossip Cop reported, Jenner used the woman’s bathroom at Trump Tower in New York City this past April after Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said he supported people using the bathroom that corresponds to their gender identity. The Republican candidate further said that Jenner specifically could use “any bathroom she chooses” at Trump Tower. As Gossip Cop also noted, Jenner praised the GOP’s nominee during an interview last month, insisting Trump was “very much” for women and the LGBT community.
