Caitlyn Jenner Comforts Grieving Family After Transgender Teen Kyler Prescott’s Suicide — SEE PHOTOS
Caitlyn Jenner penned a new WhoSay blog post on Monday about Kyler Prescott, a 14-year-old transgender boy who committed suicide in May. As Gossip Cop reported, Kyler and his tragic story was discussed during the premiere of Jenner’s E! docuseries “I Am Cait” on Sunday.
In her blog post, Jenner notes that after hearing about Kyler, who also suffered from depression, she went to meet with the teen’s mom Katharine Prescott in San Diego. “She loved and supported her trans child in so many ways, including getting Kyler’s name and gender marker legally changed,” writes Jenner. “Sadly, he died by suicide two months ago. Three days later, Katharine received his updated birth certificate in the mail.”
The reality TV star goes on to write that she thinks it’s “very, very difficult” to live in as a transgender person. “Many people, especially kids, can’t see how they can live as their authentic selves and keep their family, their jobs, and their homes,” writes Jenner. She then lets Kyler’s mom Katharine take over the rest of the blog post to share her son’s story, and the grieving mother praises Jenner for her commitment to shedding light on trans issues.
“When I first met Caitlyn I was very impressed by her sincerity. I could see right away that her desire to help further transgender equality in society is authentic,” notes Katharine, adding, “She is delightful.” She further says of Jenner, “The wonderful thing is that people like Caitlyn are starting to spread the word. This isn’t just a passing thing. This is forever. We need to help every transgender person be their authentic self. Nobody should be denied that.” See pictures Jenner shared of her meeting with Kyler’s family below.
