Caitlyn Jenner Tells Kids They Can Still Call Her “Dad” — “For Now”
As seen on “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” Kim, Kourtney, Khloe, and Rob Kardashian, along with Scott Disick, Brandon Jenner, and Brody Jenner, have always referred to Jenner as “Bruce.” Occasionally the Jenner brothers would use “father” or “dad,” which is what Kylie and Kendall Jenner primarily called her. But now that Jenner has transitioned from male to female, there has been speculation about how the family will now be referencing Jenner.
According to a People source, Jenner “spoke to each of the kids separately and told them to take their time in getting used to this. She would prefer not to be called ‘Bruce,’ but told the kids that they could still call her ‘Dad,’ at least for now.” The source adds, “Caitlyn has been really understanding that it doesn’t come naturally for anyone. No one expects this change to happen overnight. If one of the boys slips up, it’s not a big deal.”
As for the Kardashians, a different insider tells the outlet, “They all still slip up and refer to Caitlyn as Bruce, or she as he, him, all that. It takes a lot of work to get it right.” The second source continues, “The whole family is correcting each other when they get it wrong. Not in a joking way, but just a reminder that, ‘Hey, everything’s changed, and we need to respect how she wants to be called.'”
So far, Kim is the only one in the large brood to have done interviews in the wake of Jenner’s name change, during which she repeatedly used “Caitlyn.” As Gossip Cop reported, the Olympian’s mother Esther also did two interviews this week, and said in both that she’ll still be calling Jenner “Bruce” as she gets used to the change.
In Jenner’s April “20/20” interview with Diane Sawyer, daughter Casey (Cassandra) said it was a “huge relief” that Jenner said she could still call her “dad.” And in her People interview this week, Casey still used “dad” to refer to Jenner. What do you think of Jenner’s children calling her different names?
