Caitlyn Jenner Costume NOT Pulled From Spirit Halloween Website, Despite Rumors
A Caitlyn Jenner Halloween costume was not pulled down from Spirit Halloween’s website, despite rumors to the contrary. The Halloween retail store gave an exclusive statement to Gossip Cop clearing up the situation.
As Gossip Cop reported on Tuesday, the “Call Me Caitlyn Unisex Adult Costume,” an outfit similar to the one Jenner wore on the cover of Vanity Fair, is getting widely slammed on social media for being transphobic. An online petition to have the item yanked from retailers has also been launched. But while many believed the petition successfully convinced Spirit Halloween to cancel sales of the costume, the company denies that’s the case.
“The Caitlyn Costume was never taken down from SpiritHalloween.com,” the organization tells Gossip Cop. “The exclusive Spirit Halloween Caitlyn Corset and Caitlyn Wig launched online on August 26 and will be available in stores in late September.” The retailer further states that the Jenner costume photo, which received a lot of press attention on Tuesday, is not the same costume that they plan on selling.
Gossip Cop was sent a photo (see above, right) of Spirit Halloween’s Jenner costume, along with the statement, “Spirit Halloween does not design or sell any costumes to other retailers. Spirit developed an exclusive Caitlyn Corset and Caitlyn Wig for sale by Spirit Halloween only. Any other imagery or merchandise is not related to Spirit Halloween.”
