As Gossip Cop reported, Jenner opened up about her transition in a moving 10-minute speech. Towards the end, she started to get emotional, crying as she reflected on how supportive her family has been throughout her journey. While she didn’t appear nervous, a lot of forethought when into the appearance.
She told ABC’s Robin Roberts afterward, “I knew Arthur Ashe and I sat there in the audience on many an occasion and I thought to myself, ‘Boy, what if someday I could make a difference in the world and do what I’m doing, I wonder if I will ever get that?'” Jenner noted, “Tonight was the night.”
When Roberts commended Jenner for (mostly) “holding it together,” the former Olympic athlete and reality TV star, dabbing her eyes with a tissue, said it “wasn’t easy.” She went on to note, “It’s great to be in a position where myself and my family have been so supportive of what is happening. You know, my kids are great. My kids are absolutely wonderful. I am blessed to have just wonderful children.”
