Caitlyn Jenner: I Haven’t ‘Figured Out’ Donald Trump, Did NOT ‘Endorse’ Ted Cruz
As Gossip Cop reported, Jenner raised eyebrows earlier this month when she said she’d like to be Cruz’s “trans ambassador” should he be elected president. Though a lifelong Republican, the transgender star’s comments took many by surprise as the candidate isn’t exactly known for supporting the LGBT community. But at a press junket for E! International, Jenner said she wasn’t endorsing Cruz… though she still wouldn’t mind working with him on transgender issues.
“I never said that I endorsed Ted Cruz. I said I liked him. He is a constitutionalist, and I think we have to get our country back to something like that,” the “I Am Cait” star told reporters. “Now, out of all the candidates, I also feel that, as far as the LGBT community, he would probably be the worst — and need the most help.”
Sitting next to her co-stars, Jenner went on, “We’re all here ready to go. So from that standpoint, it would be a lot of issues like that. We have to keep our country strong [and be] a good constitutional country, and so that’s one of the reasons I liked him, because of his views how to fix the country, not his views on trans issues.”
“If that is the case, for the entire LGBT community, I would be at his front door. Have they contacted me? No — which I was kind of surprised [by],” Jenner added. Meanwhile, when the topic switched to the GOP frontrunner, the Olympian admitted, “Honestly, I have not figured out what Donald Trump is and so many of the issues where he’s at. I think that’s very difficult.”
Jenner continued, “Honestly, I just don’t know. When I listen to him talk and talk about this or that — he’ll be ‘great for women’s issues’ he says, but then he doesn’t say how. So I don’t know. We’ll see what happens.” And what about Hillary Clinton? Watch Jenner sidestep a question about the Democratic candidate below.
