Caitlyn Jenner Defended By U.S. Solider Joey Vicente: She IS “Heroic” (PHOTO)
Caitlyn Jenner is being defended by a U.S. soldier, who took to Facebook with a post explaining why he sees the star as “heroic.”
As Gossip Cop has reported, Jenner has been under fire for receiving the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPYS earlier this week. When the honor was first announced earlier this year, many argued it should go to veteran Noah Galloway, who lost two limbs while fighting in Iraq. More recently, hours after the awards, director Peter Berg posted a meme on Facebook featuring a side-by-side shot of a veteran and Bruce Jenner.
“One man traded 2 legs for the freedom of the other to trade 2 balls for 2 boobs. Guess which man made the cover of Vanity Fair, was praised for his courage by President Obama and is to be honored with the ‘Arthur Ashe Courage Award’ by ESPN,” read the message on the photo. Berg captioned his Instagram post, “Yep.” And on Friday, a YouTube video surfaced of a man firing a gun at his television, which had a picture of Jenner attached, because he was upset over Jenner’s honor.
But Joey Vicente, a 23-year-old behavioral health specialist in the Armed Forces, very much believes Jenner is deserving of the recognition she received, and wrote a lengthy Facebook message explaining why (see below). In reference to negative comments from Jenner’s detractors, Vicente wrote, “Your definition of who or what can’t be a hero is irrelevant. 40% of the transgender community have attempted suicide. What if I told you that her speech last night saved even one human being from attempting to take their life. I’d call that a victory on any scale. I’d call that (gasp)… heroic?”
Vicente tells Buzzfeed of his post, which is now going viral, “Bigotry in any form is unacceptable and I guess I was just fed up with seeing people’s offensive remarks about a person they know nothing about.” Read the full message below, and tell us what you think.
