Caitlyn Jenner Talks Transgender Rights With U.S. Ambassador Samantha Power (VIDEO)
Caitlyn Jenner has taken transgender issues to the U.N. In a new video released on Thursday, Jenner talks with Samantha Power, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, about the importance of protecting the trans community in the U.S. and fighting for their rights internationally. Watch the video below.
While Jenner has repeatedly stated since coming out that she doesn’t see herself as an activist, she certainly seemed comfortable taking on that role while discussing transgender rights with Ambassador Power. The two touched on the rise transgender women murder in the U.S. this year. “There’s no borders to this issue. It’s humanity,” said Jenner, adding, “If you look at this on an international level, it’s huge. People are murdered, kill, hung over this issue… It just doesn’t have to be that way.”
Jenner told Ambassador Power that she hoped by sharing her story this year she could help people become more comfortable being themselves. “I hope I can set an example that no matter how you are, what your background is, what your age is, you can live authentically,” said Jenner. She noted, “I lost a lot of enthusiasm for life for many, many years because I was so confused. To be able to live authentically… I’m so excited.”
