Ellen DeGeneres opened her show in unconventional fashion on Tuesday, inviting Bruno Mars to sing “Count On Me” in the wake of last week’s school shooting massacre in Newtown, Connecticut.

“I think we can all agree right now we need a lot of love out there,” said the host, introducing Mars.
