Bruce Willis: I’m Against Gun Control

Truth rating: 10

(GettyImages.com)

Bruce Willis is against new gun control laws.

“I think that you can’t start to pick apart anything out of the Bill of Rights without thinking that it’s all going to become undone,” the Die Hard star explained to the Associated Press.

He continued, “If you take one out or change one law, then why wouldn’t they take all your rights away from you?”

Willis’ opinion runs counter to that of fellow action star Sylvester Stallone, who signaled his support for gun control last week.

Willis also dismisses the notion that there’s a link between Hollywood shoot-em-ups and real-life gun violence.

“No one commits a crime because they saw a film,” says the star. “There’s nothing to support that. We’re not making movies about people that have gone berserk, or gone nuts. Those kind of movies wouldn’t last very long at all.”

While he has sympathy for the families dealing with the horror of recent mass shootings, Willis does not think new laws will change anything.

Willis says, “I’m a father and it’s just a tragedy. But I don’t know how you legislate insanity. I don’t know what you do about it. I don’t even know how you begin to stop that.”

What do you think about Willis’ observations?

Only police should have guns … to fight against the criminals who also have them. Normal people don’t really need to have them. I don’t feel we should do hunting as a hobby .. before we needed to hunt for food … that is a necessity. I don’t support collecting guns as a hobby.

  • saras_tears

I don’t know what to do to stop the problem! I don’t even know where to begin! But I do know that I don’t support any of the laws trying to address it!

    Lmao Bruce, just stop.

You’re a complete dumbass. I’ve never read anything more ignorant. First of all, we need PROTECTION. What would you do if someone came into your house with a gun? What would you do if someone came into your place of work with a gun? How would you protect yourself? “Normal people” are what guns are for. If you outlaw guns, the ONLY people who will have them will be criminals. Outlawing guns will only take them away from honest law-abiding citizens, and will create a black market where guns are only made available for criminals. Second of all, you don’t get to decide what people do as a hobby. If they want to hunt as a hobby, good for them. That’s THEIR hobby, and you don’t get to outlaw that. Airhead. Go read some books.

Good comment; “can’t legislate insanity”. I have a pistol I bought around 1990, have shot probably 5000 rounds through it (which isn’t much), and always at licensed ranges. I bought the pistol for protection, for sport, and for curiosity. Some people jump out of airplanes (and risk falling on people on the ground), some people drive their cars aggressively (but still legal), some people ride bicycles really fast down hill (risking pedestrians), Life is full of choices that could possibly lead to harm of another. My pistol is no more a danger to someone than my hot water heater, vehicle, or my own hands. Legislating away my pistol won’t make the world a safer place, using that logic you may as well legislate we all live our lives in a padded cell with no stimuli whatsoever. Life is full of potential dangers and choices – its the choices we make (and external factors) that determine whether we become a danger to ourselves or others. If you want to legislate something, make laws that punish those who inflict harm on others…

you should really read more actually.. and im not talking about fantasy books but psychology books. If guns are available and kids grow up seeing them they dont think they are dangerous they think about them as toys and that is the problem in the USA. The USA has the highest rate of violent crimes in all developed countries. Its rate is also higher than most developing countries… Hmm why would that be? oh yeah you have zero gun control! its easier to get a gun than open a bank account (its an exaggeration but you get the point)
In any case gun control wont take away your guns, it is meant to control who can get them! a psychological test should be required and it should be harder to get guns in the usa. no one says take away all the guns and give them to the criminals its just about controlling who gets them and controlling how they store them

  • glow

actually its possible for people who are frail psychologically to copy violent scenes from movies specially if it is someone young or someone who is abused its called copycat effect. There have been some cases of young people committing crimes imitated from movies. Just saying

  • MissZee

if a criminal breaks into my house and threatens me or my family, and I have a gun, I will do whatever is necessary to protect them. Hiding into a bathroom and calling 911 isn’t enough in most cases.

  • Martina

Bruce…..thanks God! At least one….finally one who is not brainwashed.
Government does not care about your rights, neither safety.
Your rights will be taken away….one by one!

  • Martina

Oh really?! Cos the police will be there every time when criminals decided to attack or murder someone.
You would sing different if someone point a gun to your and your kids head.
You going to leave your and your kids life in the hands of police and criminals?!
    Nice……

  • Martina

Country that using and is around guns for centuries would not change their philosophy just because the law change. Therefor ….criminals would carry guns …..law or not law….and it will be you in their mercy.
If you know so much about the psychology and guns effect on children, you should also know that takes an ages to change the approach towards them.
My family is the most important thing in my life. I would not put their safety into anybody’s hands!

the US has the highest rate of violent crimes? No.. it doesnt. England does. Look up that fact first of all. Second of all, violent crimes happen in America because of mental illness. Depression, mental instability, stress, etc are rampant. I was a psychology major, don’t be telling me to read a psychology book. I’ve read dozens. Third of all, there are hundreds of laws already controlling gun control. It takes several months to a year to legally obtain a gun. And last, if you really knew the american government you’d know that when they say “gun control” they mean take away/infringe on the 2nd amendment. People in california and washington are HANDING IN their guns to gov officials in exchange for grocery coupons. Do you realize just how much is wrong with that scenario? Also, you don’t seem to be understanding the fact that gun control DOES NOT AFFECT CRIMINALS. Criminals LAUGH THAT OFF. They have an entire black market to get guns. Drug lords in Mexico are so happy that there is this whole gun control thing happening here. Do you understand why? Do you understand that gun control makes it EASIER for criminals to commit crime??? I’m so tired of the ignorance.

    Sad isn’t it

We have a very dysfunctional process in this country of dealing with people who are mentally ill. Case in point: the two incidents with people being shoved onto the subway tracks in NYC. This is just a small example of the issues with people being out and about when they have mental health issues like Bipolar disorder and schizophrenia and honestly, as bad as it sounds, some of these people need to be institutionalized and with things the way they are now, that can’t happen. So they’re out on the streets being trusted to take their meds; or not. And they’re like walking, talking time bombs waiting to go off. But please, take all of our guns. That will fix the problem, won’t it????

  • glow

Actually the uk has the highest crime rate in EU not in the world. I do get my facts right i dont get them from wikipedia. Uk reported crimes is 6,523,706 and the reported crimes in the US are 11,877,218 see the little difference. Plus I was simply saying that that children get desensibilized when they are around guns and violence which also is a fact. There is no need to get defensive no one is taking your gun away I was simply giving my opinion. Also no one in the government is that naive to think they can take away all guns from everyone but they can prevent selling military caliber guns. Also with gun control should come a better control of black markets. It is a long process. Like I said it should be about who get to have guns and how to store them so their kids cant reach them etc. It also takes education. And you seem like an angry person, take your psychology major and apply it to make yourself happy. I dont mean it in any bad way btw. Also before telling people how tired you are of ignorance inform yourself and dont make so many assumptions

    He got it right.

IMO – Making gun ownership illegal will NOT stop gun violence. Murder, drugs, and robbery are all illegal but guess what, they happen every freaking day in every state. There’s got to be a solution, as a mom, I wish to he!! I knew what it was, but these laws won’t solve the problem.

  • Mother’s Against Violence

Well, one thing we know from his comments is that Bruce is not a constitutional scholar. The bill of rights has a history of balancing the needs of society against individual rights. There are no constitutional amendments proposed to nullify the 2nd Amendment, nor is there any discussion of taking guns away from gun owners. The entire case law has always come down in favor of gun owners. This paranoia that people are out to take away people’s guns simply has no basis. What is being proposed are things like universal background checks to combat the ability of criminals and mentally unstable individuals to obtain guns in the secondary market and at gun shows. Also things like limitations on the number of ammunition in a clip limiting it to like 30. Unless you have an entire army invading your home, you will be able to purchase sufficient ammunition to defend your home against multiple home invaders. To ignore the problem of a proliferation of guns unhindered and unregulated and the alarming correlation to escalating gun violence in terms of mass murder is more than just a tragedy. It’s a preventable tragedy.

Good for Mr. Willis. We have at least one sane Hollyweird actor that gets it. The Second Amendment is a part of the Bill of Rights, not the Bill of Needs. So, anytime a moron asks the question why you need an AR-15, then you could turn it around and ask why they or anyone needs a lot of things.

  • velveteenRabbit

the problem with what he’s saying is that he’s calling it the right to own GUNS. The 2nd amendment talks about “arms.” Which should mean I can own anything that is an “arms”… like a shoulder mounted rocket launcher or anthrax. But the court has decided that there must be limits. Where you put those limits depends on what’s going on in your society right then and there.

  • velveteenRabbit

the problem with comparing crime rates is that, in the UK for instance, some things are considered “assault” that we would laugh about here. Ask Christian Bale. He got charged with assault because he yelled at his mom.

Ex-cellent! Another Constitutional scholar heard from. Did he study with Ted Nugent at the Glenn Beck University?

Nice memorization of NRA talking points, pianogirl. Now go try and have an independent though–for a change, if you’re capable of it.

Well, that’s all well and good until oh, you lose your job and decide to seek revenge or your marriage breaks up and you decide to seek revenge or you forget to secure your “curiousity” and one of your kids gets ahold of it and shoots himself or someone else. And you know what? Those choices are being made every day, with people who weren’t criminals either, until external factors took over.

  • Common man

“Laws that forbid the carrying of arms. . . disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. . . Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.” — Jefferson’s “Commonplace Book,” 1774-1776, quoting from On Crimes and Punishment, by criminologist Cesare Beccaria, 1764

    – Thomas Jefferson

  • ChuckSacramento

Every day people have those problems or get drunk or get high or are simply aggressive and grab a knife or shove someone up against a wall, or the other day when a 16yr old threw a 9yr old off a 5 story building. If you are ignorant about how many acts of violence occur each and every day without the presence of a gun go buy a scanner or get involved with your local police department. Some people do violent things because they are violent. Its the people that are defective, not the object they put in their hand to use as a tool for their violence.
