Brittney Griner, WNBA Star, Attacked By Knife-Wielding Man In China (VIDEO)
Brittney Griner, the WNBA star, was chased and attacked by a man with a knife as she attempted to board a team bus in China. She sustained cuts to her elbow during the bizarre and frightening incident.
The Phoenix Mercury star, currently playing for Beijing Great Wall of the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association during the WNBA offseason, was leaving a practice facility with two teammates when a knife-wielding assailant confronted the group and began stabbing with his weapon.
Griner and her teammates made it onto the bus, but not before she was cut on the elbow. Fortunately, she was wearing a winter coat, and the knife was not able to do more damage to her arm. Neither of her teammates was badly hurt, either. The attacker left the scene before reportedly returning covered in blood. He was taken into custody. Griner posted Instagram video of her attacker being cornered by police (see below).
It’s not yet clear what provoked the attack, and the assailant has not been identified. An agent for Griner says the man was yelling at the players, although it’s not been reported what he said. It’s very fortunate Griner wasn’t more seriously injured. See Griner’s comments about the incident and her video below.
