Britney Spears Meltdown Claim NOT True
Britney Spears is NOT in the midst of a meltdown, despite a completely false tabloid report that could result in a defamation lawsuit. Gossip Cop can help correct this claim.
According to In Touch, the singer behaved erratically backstage at the MTV Video Music Awards last month. A so-called “insider” tells the magazine Spears was discovered “standing alone talking and giggling as if she was discussing something with another person.” The outlet’s questionable insider further claims that “people who witnessed it first thought she was practicing her act,” but then “realized something was really wrong.”
“Backstage at the VMA’s,” adds the dubious source, “Britney was also slipping into her infamous British accent, which she used during the height of her last meltdown.” The outlet’s “insider” also contends Spears “doesn’t operate in reality” and supposedly leads a “very, very sad, lonely life.” But as Gossip Cop reported on Tuesday, Spears is threatening to sue In Touch for defamation over these untrue allegations.
The singer’s attorney was notified beforehand about the tabloid’s plan to run the story, and responded with a legal letter warning the magazine not to publish the untrue and possibly libelous article. Spears’ lawyer insists the report is “utterly false, highly defamatory and completely offensive to Ms. Spears.” It’s currently unclear whether the singer and her legal team plan to move forward with their proposed defamation lawsuit now that In Touch has printed the inaccurate claims.
