Britney Spears Threatens To Sue In Touch
Britney Spears is threatening to sue In Touch over an allegedly defamatory story. The article, which has not yet been published, reportedly makes a number of allegations about the singer’s time at the MTV Video Music Awards.
As Gossip Cop reported, Spears performed at the VMAs last month for the first time in nearly 10 years. In recent days, In Touch alerted her camp about their intentions to a run a story claiming the pop star behaved bizarrely at the event. Among the tabloid’s claims is that Spears was talking to herself and using a British accent.
In response to the notice, Spears’ attorney fired off a legal letter to the publication, warning them about moving ahead with the article. The lawyer deemed the allegations “utterly false, highly defamatory and completely offensive to Ms. Spears.” The letter also threatened a libel and defamation lawsuit should the magazine print the story as planned.
It is not clear if In Touch plans to change course. The next edition of the tabloid is due out on Wednesday. As Gossip Cop has previously reported, the outlet’s parent company, Bauer Media, is already embroiled in a legal battle with Blake Shelton, who sued after a cover last year falsely announced he was in rehab. That case is still pending.
As for Spears’ involvement with the VMAs, Gossip Cop has already corrected two untrue stories. Prior to the event, RadarOnline claimed the star was “freaked out” over her upcoming performance. Then afterward, the webloid alleged she was furious with MTV for supposedly being treated poorly. Gossip Cop was assured that neither article was accurate.
