Britney Spears first to hit five million followers on Twitter

She’s sold millions of records, and now Britney Spears has broken a new record.

The pop princess has become the first person to break the five million followers mark on Twitter.

Earlier this week, Spears (@britneyspears) overtook reigning social media king Ashton Kutcher (@aplusk) for the most followers on the site.

At present, Spears has 5,014,759 followers. Next is Kutcher with 4,985,181 followers.

Keep an eye out, though, for Lady Gaga (@LadyGaga) who currently has 4,249,607 followers.

The “Paparazzi” singer has been busily using Twitter to connect to her fans, and the speed at which her follower base is growing makes her a serious contender for the top spot in the not too distant future.

    I guess who wrote this article is a Lady Gaga’s fan… Britney is the first to achieve 5 million followers but still half of this article talks about Lady Gaga?????? And if it’s not enough, this article just mention Ashton Kutcher who was the most followed person on twitter for a very long time and was a real gentleman when britney became the most followed person… Some other celebrities would start to preach against britney in this situation… I think Ashton is a righteous man! He’s really an example! And britney is a very talented artist! Both of them deserves to be where they are!

    Good for Britney. I don’t care for her music, but seeing her ripped apart daily in ways that aggravated whatever personal issues she was having mad me feel sorry for her.

    She’s looking good, working hard, and winning back some of her fans, hope everything stays sunny.
