Bristol Palin Engaged to Dakota Meyer, U.S. Marine Vet and Medal of Honor Recipient
Bristol Palin is engaged! The 24-year-old daughter of Sarah Palin is set to wed Dakota Meyer, a U.S. Marine veteran and Medal of Honor recipient. The couple announced the news on Saturday.
“Truly the luckiest girl in the world, cannot wait to marry this man!!!!” declared Palin on Instagram, alongside a picture of the couple kissing. She then posted a picture of her engagement ring. Meyer posted a picture of the couple on Facebook (see right), along with the message, “I’m definitely the luckiest guy [in the world] to be able to spend the rest of my life with Bristol Palin!” Aww.
Meyer, who hails from Kentucky, was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions while serving in Afghanistan in 2009. When his fellow Marines went missing following an ambush, Meyer entered an area filled with enemy combatants, helping to extract the bodies of dead servicemen while personally evacuating a dozen wounded soldiers and helping to provide cover for another 24 Marines as they escaped. He became the first living Marine since the Vietnam War to be given the Medal of Honor.
Palin, who has a six-year-old son Tripp with her previous fiancé, Levi Johnston, has become a public figure following her mother’s Vice Presidential candidacy, appearing on “Dancing with the Stars” and authoring a memoir. Congratulations to the couple.
