Breaking Dawn Passes $500 Million at Box Office in 12 Days

Truth rating: 10

(Summit)

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 has passed the $500 million mark.

The film grossed $508 million in global ticket sales in only 12 days since the film’s release on November 18, 2011.

Summit Entertainment’s Co-Chairmen Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger stated: “We couldn’t be more pleased with the success of this film and a franchise that the fans have continued to support over the past several years. Thank you to all involved with the films from the actors, filmmakers and Stephenie Meyer to the most important group of all, the global fan base that continues to drive a desire for more Edward, Jacob and Bella.”

In a release sent to Gossip Cop, the studio says Breaking Dawn “also reached an additional milestone domestically, having generated $223 million and putting it in the top 12 films to reach $220 million in 10 days.”

As a huge fan of the Twilight Saga and the stars, I am thrilled for them! However, as a huge fan of Breaking Dawn the book– this movie is NOT my favorite–some of the scenes were very disappointing and not at all like the book!! I even watched it a second time, with a different expectation and it just really annoyed me. The ver last scene with Aro and the Volturi is so wrong and so out there–I can’t believe it!!! Bill almost made Aro out to be a ghoul–not at all like the Aro from New Moon. Just my two cents though–like I said I’m happy the movie has had great success.

I actually think out of all of the movies, this one is closest to the books. More of the lines got in. They had to change the wolf story a little bit to add some tension but I think it worked well.

So glad it is doing so well at the box office. :)

This is really great news. The TwilIght Saga is such a unique and original story. Robert, Kristen and Taylor turned out to be the perfect movie stars for this Saga. The rest of the talented stars in the cast completed what the Saga needed to be a success. …thanks Gossip Cop. :-)
    Wow!

I am not surprised by this news! I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and thought that each actor played their roles perfectly. So happy for everyone involved in the making of this movie!

I really like your positive attitude & I have seen the movie more than once & every time I see it, I like it even more. Congrats to Mr. Condon & all the cast. It is fantastic & I will continue seeing it until it leaves the theaters.

I agree, this movie did seem to be the closest to the books so far. I can’t wait till part 2!

I didn’t like it at all. And many people do so. I remember one comment on the movie site:

“Edward has never shouted at Bella.
Edward would never leave Bella alone.
I love the saga because everyone shoves his ego deep in the a.. and thinks about the one he cares. The movie has nothing in common with the book.”

Most of the people watched BD to see the sex scenes with Pattinson. I think his Bel Ami and Cosmopolis will be successfull by the same reason.

Good news: I watched BD but didn’t pay for it.

I agree with you, I have seen it 6 times already and I’m probably going to see it again before it leaves the theaters. It is an awesome movie and very intense! I can’t wait till part 2 comes out. My niece says we should all ban together and start a petition asking Sumitt to release it sooner than next November, like maybe June or July. What do you think?

I loved this movie and am so very happy for all of its success! Congrats to all of the hard working people who helped make this movie what it is–AMAZING!!!

good for all those involved, I liked it but still Eclipse is by far the best one in my opinion but everyone worked hard on this film so they deserve all the success it brings. I just hate the fact Summit is waiting a whole year to bring part two out, they are such greedy jerks.

“There is a lot of speculation on the internet about possible covers, content and text of Breaking Dawn. I hope everybody knows that you shouldn’t believe everything you see on the internet.

Can Summit release the R rated version on DVD so people of age can see the real full version and they can put the limited version for the under age group??

    Holy crap! That’s amazing!
Even though it wasn’t my favorite out of the series so far, i still think it totally deserves all that support and money! It’s not my favorite because it’s the slowest one and is only about one thing – the baby. While the other 3 are about mutiple different things which makes them a little bit more exciting in my opinion. But this is by far the closest movie to the book which I totally appreciate!

now that bd1 is earning rpattz can go back to his old ways. hidding and w h o ring and getting everybody pregnant. going back and forth kstew and caitlinC. and yes she is still in the picture. i was a fan before all his true colors show.

future rpattz and kstew events. something will hit by june 2012. kstew will fnally accept the truth and let go.
rpattz womanizing will be revealed. he will do fine. next project is a mag layout with the whole family and dog to be photographed by a rich, young woman who can help further his career by having a well respected papa.caitlinC.

maybe kstew will wake up earlier than june 2012 and let him go earlier. she has all those double eye-bag lately. she does not look 21 anymore. she was better dressed when she was dating angarano. this guy was never good for her. everybody has warned her. but being young & in love, she did not listen. the best way for her is to let him go. accept the inevitable and move on. not all handsome men in HW are players. most are but not all. there are some decent men out there. move on kstew

I have an opposite reaction, I did not like the book except the first 80 pages (wedding and honeymoon). I thought Bill Condon did a brilliant job of getting as close to the storyline as possible and yet make the movie intriguing and very romantic. This is the first time that I have actually seen the love between Edward and Bella since the first movie and the chemistry is spot on. I liked Eclipse but personally thought the chemistry was devoid between the two of them in New Moon, except for the last bedroom scene. It amazes me that I have seen this four times and yet I told my friends I would not see it at all when I knew they would make the movie. I hope there are changes in Pt. 2 because this will be the most boring battle in history. Congratulations to the cast and crew for making over $500 million in 12 days. I am eagerlly looking forward for scenes between Edward and Renseme, that should be priceless.

I would love to see it in late July, like six or seven weeks after SWATH. If it opens in November, less than four weeks later, we’ll be treated to Cosmopolis. I’d rather have these movies spread out. Seeing it in July vs November will not draw out more fans. We’ll all be there no matter when it opens, and even though Summit isn’t involved in these other movies, it could be their way of saying thank you to all the fans if they release it in July.

Bel Ami Feb or March. SWATH early June. BD2 end of July. Cosmopolis 12-12-12. PERFECT!

This is what I have always wished they would do with many films. Film it as an R movie for a DVD, and trim it down to PG-13 for theatre release if that age bracket is their target as well. Release both DVD versions. Or at the very least, offer PG-13 DVD in the stores and the R version for online purchase only.

When I saw these global ticket sales, I felt so happy for Rob and Kristen, as well as Bill Condon. And proud as well, as if they were members of my own family having this phenomenal success. Especially after the dismal critic reviews that left me floored, this just proves that they succeeded in their desire to make Breaking Dawn appeal to the worldwide fans of the story. Being under the constraints of PG-13, they could not have done better!

You have to be kidding, right?

  • Robsessed1986

Actually, yes they can. They usually call this the “unrated director’s cut”. And I’m with you, I’d like to see what they left out altogether. In fact, I wish they would release a gag reel. The director, Bill Condon, said that at the end of filming the wedding scene where Bella is dancing with Jacob then he runs off all pissed off, he yelled “cut” and Kristen hiked up the wedding dress and ran after him yelling “wait Jacob, come back I made a mistake!” I would love to see that, it sounds so funny! While I doubt they will ever release a gag reel, Bill Condon did say that they will have deleted scenes, probably in the special features section of the dvd. Keep your fingers crossed!! lol
