Brad Pitt Leads Sing-Along At Palm Springs Film Festival To Teach Pronunciation Of David Oyelowo’s Name – WATCH VIDEO
Brad Pitt not only presented David Oyelowo the “Breakthrough Performer Of The Award” at the Palm Springs International Film Festival on Saturday night, but he also lead the star-studded event in a sing-along to help them learn how to pronounce the Selma star’s name. Among the stars at the festival, who Pitt coaxed into singing with him were Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, Eddie Redmayne, Michael Keaton, Julianne Moore, Steve Carrell, and Benedict Cumberbatch (video below).
Pitt, who produced the film began by saying of Oyelowo, “Tonight, we celebrate an actor brave enough to step into the shoes of Martin Luther King.” He then added, “And I know that there is one lingering question in the back of your minds and that question is, how the hell do you pronounce his name?” After some laughter, Pitt enunciated Oyelowo’s name as “Oh-yellow-oh,” before assuring the crowd, “It’s all right. It’s OK. I’ve been there, and I’m here to help.” Pitt said, “In situations like this, I found it sometimes helps to sing it.”
The handsome star first tried to get the audience to sing Oyelowo’s name to the tune of the soccer cheer, “Olé, Olé, Olé,” followed by Coldplay’s song, “Yellow.” Well, it didn’t exactly work as planned, but the audience still enjoyed it. Check out the video below, and tell us what you think.
