Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard did NOT have an affair, nor is their working relationship the reason Angelina Jolie filed for divorce, despite a new report. Gossip Cop can once again correct these claims.
As Gossip Cop reported, Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt on Monday, revealing they separated just days ago. The couple is splitting over their differing parenting styles, as well as his alleged use of weed and alcohol. But the New York Postis falsely alleging an affair with Cotillard is to blame.
The paper claims Jolie is divorcing Pitt “after learning he was cheating on her with his sexy co-star.” A so-called “source” was quoted by the outlet as saying, “She hired a private eye because she felt that he was fooling around with her on the set, and it turns out, he was. And that was the final straw.”
But this isn’t accurate. Jolie’s decision to divorce Pitt has absolutely nothing to do with Cotillard, who maintained a professional dynamic with the actor during production of their upcoming movie, Allied. Sadly, though, Gossip Cop is not surprised to see these claims, as wrong as they are. The tabloids have spent months falsely alleging Pitt and Cotillard became too close while filming, and curiously, the New York Post has now picked up the untrue claims.
Back in March, In Touchran a cover story contending the marriage was “destroyed by another woman,” namely Cotillard. The magazine stuck to that angle for months, and other publications joined in. Star, for instance, alleged in May that Pitt had “cheated” with Cotillard. And in August, Celeb Dirty Laundry said Pitt was leaving Jolie to be with her. Life & Style and the National Enquireralso ran their own versions of these baseless allegations.
Gossip Cop corrected each of these stories at the time of publication, and they are no more true now than they were then. Simply put, there was no third party involved in Jolie and Pitt’s breakup and infidelity is not at issue.
