Bobby Womack Dead at 70
Bobby Womack is dead.
The singer was 70.
Womack’s sister says he died in his sleep on Thursday.
No official cause of death has been determined.
Womack performed at the Bonnarroo Music and Arts Festival less than two weeks ago — see photo right.
His career dates back to the 1950s, when he and his brothers were in The Valentinos.
The performer went on to write and record what would eventually become the Rolling Stones’ first no. 1, “It’s All Over Now,” and had a successful solo career with nearly 30 studio albums.
He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Music Hall of Fame in 2009, and released his most recent album in 2012.
A new record, titled The Best Is Yet To Come, was slated to be released this year.
Womack suffered from a number of health woes over the years, including drug addiction, diabetes, and colon cancer.
