Did a three-year affair with an assistant lead to the breakup of Bobby Flay’s marriage? The celebrity chef recently filed for divorce from Stephanie March, and a bombshell story in the New York Post on Sunday claims his alleged cheating wrecked their marriage.

Actress Maia Madison alleges to the paper that Flay had been cheating on March with Elyse Tirrell, who started as a waitress at his Bar American restaurant in New York City in 2008, before becoming his assistant. Madison claims March learned of the alleged affair last November, telling the Post, “She came to my house and was sobbing uncontrollably. I can’t believe the last 10 years of my life have been a lie.’”

Flay and March reportedly attempted to work on their marriage over the holidays, before things fell apart again in February, when Tirrell worked at Flay’s South Beach Wine & Food Festival booth (see photo above left). According to Madison, March and Tirrell had spent time together on numerous occasions, with the actress supposedly attributing Tirrell’s allegedly awkward behavior to shyness. “Now this girl is about to become the Monica Lewinsky of the food world,” Madison tells the paper.

Whether that will actually be the case remains to be seen, and the comparison may be a little extreme. Flay’s business partner Laurence Kretchmer insists to the Post that the affair claims are untrue. “If [Tirrell] had an affair with Bobby it would have been reported to me. That has never even been suggested, and people like to talk,” he said. “Have Bobby and Elyse been seen together? Yes, that’s her job. None of this has any basis in reality.”

That said, Flay’s camp has released a statement that doesn’t exactly deny the cheating allegations, but instead suggests that the story is a ploy from March’s camp as part of her alleged attempts to get their prenuptial agreement invalidated. “We will continue to refrain from responding to the continued efforts by certain parties to spread rumors and innuendo. This specific allegation was in a letter sent from one attorney in this case to the other. It was written and then leaked specifically to try to insert this story into the press, and that’s unfortunate,” says Flay’s rep.

The spokesperson adds, ” Even more unfortunate is that all of this is being done in order to renegotiate a prenuptial agreement that was agreed to over a decade ago and never amended during the marriage.” Meanwhile, Gossip Cop corrected a false tabloid story last week, that wrongly claimed Flay and Giada De Laurentiis are a new couple.
