Bobbi Kristina Brown Autopsy Unsealed: Water Immersion And Drugs Caused Death
Bobbi Kristina Brown’s cause of death was water immersion and dug toxicity, according to her autopsy, which was unsealed on Friday nearly eight months after she died.
As Gossip Cop reported, Brown was found face down and unconscious in a bathtub in her Georgia home in January 2015. She spent the next several months hospitalized on life support, before being moved into hospice care. She passed away on July 26.
The open investigation into her apparent drowning became a homicide case in the wake of her death, as suspicion swirled around boyfriend Nick Gordon. The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s autopsy was sealed due to the ongoing investigation. But this week, a judge granted a local news station’s request to have it unsealed.
In a statement released Friday, the Medical Examiner’s Office says Brown’s official cause of death is lobar pneumonia, caused by delayed effects of hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, as well as the immersion of her face in water, complicating mixed drug intoxication. The release notes:
“The underlying cause of death is the condition which starts the downhill course of events leading to death and in this case is the immersion associated with drug intoxication. The pneumonia and encephalopathy are more immediate causes which resulted from the immersion and drug intoxication.
The autopsy alone could not reveal the underlying cause of death because of the long interval between Ms. Brown being found unresponsive in the bathtub and her eventual death. Thus, the underlying cause of death is based substantially on review of medical records, the results of toxicology tests, investigative records, and the fact that the autopsy did not show any other likely underlying cause of death or reason for Ms. Brown becoming unresponsive.
The drugs involved included marijuana, alcohol (ethanol), benzoylecgonine (a cocaine-related substance), benzodiazepines (medications used for sedation or to treat anxiety), and morphine. It could not be determined from toxicology tests whether the morphine resulted from heroin use.”
The Medical Examiner goes on to address whether Brown was murdered, and makes clear that her “manner of death” has not been finalized. The report says:
“The other question which arises is manner of death. In other words, did death result from natural causes such as disease, an intentional act such as suicide or homicide, an unintentional cause (accident), or in an undetermined manner when a more specific manner of death cannot be established. Death was clearly not due to natural causes, but the medical examiner has not been able to determine whether death was due to intentional or accidental causes, and has therefore classified the manner of death as Undetermined.”
While the Roswell Police Department and the Fulton County District Attorney are fully aware of these findings, an update in the criminal case has not been provided in quite sometime. As Gossip Cop has reported, Brown’s conservator has filed a wrongful death suit against Gordon, alleging he injected her with a “toxic substance” and dragged her body to the bathtub. Neither he nor Brown’s family have commented on the autopsy report’s release. In a heartbreaking coincidence, today would have been the 23rd birthday of Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston’s daughter.
