Bindi Irwin Gets Highest Score With Dance For Dad On ‘Dancing With The Stars’ (VIDEO)
Bindi Irwin and her partner Derek Hough scored the highest on Monday’s “Dancing With The Stars” with their contemporary routine to “Every Breath You Take.” Watch the video below.
For the “Most Memorable Year” night dance, Irwin picked the year 2006 because that was when her father Steve Irwin, the “Crocodile Hunter,” passed away. “We had so many fun adventures,” she recalled in her taped package, calling them the “best times of my life.” Irwin’s famous father died at the age of 44. In the package, Irwin was shown as a child eulogizing her father as “the best daddy in the whole world.”
Through tears now as an adult she further said, “It took a really long time to understand what really happened.” She added, “For the rest of my life, I’m going to feel like he’s going to come home.” She noted that she hoped her dad’s spirit would live through her contemporary dance with Hough to “Every Breath You Take.”
After the dance, an emotional Julianne Hough stated, “That took my breath away… That dance was breathtaking.” She added, “You should be very proud, but [your dad’s] very proud, too.” Bruno Tonioli similarly expressed, “He was dancing with you every step of the way… He’s proud of you. Australia’s proud of you.” And Carrie Ann Inaba noted that it was “such an honor to watch such a bright light dance with so much beauty and passion.”
And for her effort, Irwin had the highest score the night on the fourth week of competition. Along with Derek Hough, they received a score of 28 out of 30 from the judges. Inaba and Julianne Hugh gave 9s, while Tonioli gave a perfect score of 10.
