Billy Ray Cyrus: “Hannah Montana Destroyed My Family”
Billy Ray Cyrus says he deeply regrets letting Miley star on “Hannah Montana.” The country singer tells GQ in an explosive interview, “It destroyed my family. I’ll tell you right now – the damn show destroyed my family.”
Cyrus, who earlier this year filed for divorce from Tish, his wife of 13 years, says he wishes the show had never happened. “I’d take it back in a second. For my family to be here and just be everybody okay, safe and sound and happy and normal, would have been fantastic,” he laments.
“I was going to work every single day knowing that my family had fallen apart, but yet I had to sit in front of that camera,” adds Cyrus, who also starred on the hit series. He says he took the blame for Miley’s scandals, such as the infamous bong incident and the racy Vanity Fair photo shoot, “because I’m her daddy, and that’s what daddies do,” but he confesses he’s now “scared” for his daughter.
“She’s got a lot of people around her that’s putting her in a great deal of danger,” says the “Achy Breaky Heart” singer, who was unhappy she held 18th birthday at a bar. “I should have said, ‘Enough is enough – it’s getting dangerous and somebody’s going to get hurt’ . . . Honestly, I didn’t know the ball was out of bounds until it was way up in the stands somewhere.” What do you think of Cyrus’ comments?
