Billy Gilman ‘Anyway’ “The Voice” Video: Watch Top 10 Performance!
Billy Gilman covered Martina McBride and received a standing ovation on “The Voice” on Monday. Check out the video below!
As Gossip Cop has reported, Gilman is no stranger to country music. He was a child star in the industry, scoring a Grammy nomination for his debut single, “One Voice,” back in 2000. Despite that initial success, Gilman struggled to maintain a music career, which is why he’s now taking his chances on the NBC competition.
One of the frontrunners since season 11 began, Gilman has said he now aspires to be more of a pop star than a country artist. And that’s what made his song assignment for the Top 10 week a bit surprising. As selected by coach Adam Levine, the singer had to take on McBride’s “Anyway,” which was a country hit back in 2006.
Now 10 years after its release, Gilman revealed in rehearsal that McBride was actually instrumental in leading him to his original record deal. Levine said he didn’t want to “force” a country track on Gilman, but the contestant was right at home belting out the inspirational track. And his performance, which kicked off the two-hour live broadcast, earned a standing ovation from all four coaches.
Blake Shelton said afterward, “I’m happy to see Billy go back to the [country] well for a little bit, even if it’s just for a moment.” Miley Cyrus admitted, “At this point in the competition, that’s not good for us, but it’s really good for you… As a coach, I’m flipping out.” She even added, “It just heightened what you already are, which is maybe the winner of ‘The Voice.'”
Levine also said to his artist, “It’s amazing that you can still astound me.” Watch video of Gilman’s performance below!
