Billy Crystal Confirmed: 2012 Oscars Host

Billy Crystal will host the 2012 Oscars.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has confirmed the news after Crystal revealed it on Twitter.

“Am doing the Oscars so the young woman in the pharmacy will stop asking my name when I pick up the prescriptions,” he wrote on Thursday. “Looking forward to the show.”

He’s hosted the Academy Awards eight times in the past, most recently in 2004.

Crystal replaces Eddie Murphy, who dropped out on Wednesday.

Murphy resigned after producer Brett Ratner was forced out amid controversy.

Brian Grazer is taking over the production.

The Oscars will be held on February 26, 2012.

    I haven’t seen many of the Academy Awards so I’m curious about this: Who do people think have been the top 3 hosts for the Oscars? It just seems like none of the recent ones are that great, jn my opinion, but I don’t know if that’s just me.

    Where are the Grammy’s are in touch with the general public. For some reason, the Academy Awards refuse to reward Blockbusters. So in a way, they know better what’s good. How is a movie’s best if no one sees it. Just does not make sense to me.
