Maher is not funny-he uses ‘jokes’ as a way to insult others who do not have his view. If there is a protest-oh, I was just making a joke. How is it funny, to say that he wished HARM to HASSELBACK? How was that NOT PERSONAL? You could talk, debate a person with total opposite views without being DISRESPECTFUL. You can be FUNNY without being CRUDE. The View has a ‘habit’ of bring guests on that they know will cause trouble-either insulting the one conservative on the show, or bring conservatives on and being ripped apart by A CERTAIN HOST who does not care or respect their views.

just to clarify Bill Maher made that joke several days before Lara Logan was sexually assaulted and was making reference to her having been arrested by the egyptian police. He was in no way suggesting Elisabeth Hasselbeck be sent to Eqypt to assaulted (the assault had yet to take place). Elisabeth referenced the sexual assault in order to twist the facts and muster support for herself by making it seem as if Bill Maher was wishing her harm. Fact is it was a stupid joke, not even that funny, and she really has no reason to be upset about it.

If you remember Lara Login was being held by Egyptian police weeks before the rape. That is when Bill Maher’s joke was made. Elisabeth acted totally unprofessional. If she would have ignored it and laughed with the rest of the view she would have looked good. Unfortunately she looked like a scorned teenager. Barbara Walters could teach her about grace.

If you watch Hasselbeck’s face she is almost identical to the “Church Lady” on SNL…mouth all pruned up looking like she has a mouth full!

I agree completely!! Remember when she ATTEMPTED to take on Kathy Griffin? She needs to develop a thicker skin or pick another line of work. EVERY woman on that panel has been made fun of in some capacity or another. I find it interesting that she doesn’t mind laughing along with the joke as long as the joke is on someone else. I would enjoy The View much more without her!!

I do not care for Bill Maher, but I thought that Elisabeth showed very little class today. It was uncomfortable to watch….. for the rest of the panel and the viewers! She did seem very Junior High.

What was Maher trying to convey with his joke? Since it was before Lara Logan had been sexually assaulted I interpreted it that he was saying that a. Lara Logan is very beautiful and probably should not have been there in the first place, in this type of environment where females are very subservient and command little respect and b. that if we are stupid enough to send Lara well then why not send Elisabeth Hasselbeck …another very attractive media lady, to now replace her. (basically saying that sending Lara there was equivalent to sending Elisabeth there). Yes it was a rather dumb thing to say and in light of what did later happen…..it became unfortunate and really NOT funny. Elisabeth just starts yapping away like an overly excited little dog though… in an attempt to intimidate others and this type of behavior of hers makes her look absolutely ridiculous and it clearly is completely ineffective. When she gets uppity like this, she gets screechy she just looks funny. Maybe this scares her kids but I think most adults just find it funny.

Elisabeth behaved like a 7th grader on this show. Her behavior made me wish we had traded her, but after 5 min. they would have sent her right back to her husband who must truly be a saint among men to put up with her mouth.

I actually like Elisabeth Hasselbeck and respect her for not changing her views to match her co-hosts. I don’t even consider myself to be “conservative”. Thankfully The View is not about a “popularity” contest. I agree that the exchange was uncomfortable but why can’t she call out another talking head who made an inappropriate and unflattering joke or slur against her which easily could be construed as “bullying”.

A very inxperienced and frankly not very bright person who was clearly elevated beyond her own experience level by ABC and Walters. For whatever reason, Walters seems to have taken Hasselbeck under her wing (likely becuase conflict makes for good ratings and EH is the perfect villainess)

I’m not a fan of either one of these people. However, Elisabeth thinks she belongs to a higher standard than everyone else. She’s arrogant, loud and down right rude. Many people might have the same opinion about Bill Maher. Regardless, millions of people express their opinion every day without conducting themselves in this manner. But you know what? She has the right to do so because we live in a country which affords every single one of us the right to freedom of speech, including Bill Maher. Did Bill Maher hit Elisabeth below the belt? Maybe, maybe not. Was it immoral and unwarranted. Probably, despite the fact that many people do not think so because they enjoy his type of humor. It was, after all, meant to be a joke. It’s not the type of humor that I particularly care for but I also do not make it a point to hate on other people who do enjoy that type of humor. It’s not like he committed a crime by the telling the joke, nor did his viewers commit a crime by laughing at the comment. Was Elisabeth being her normal rude, obnoxious, overbearing and annoying self in the manner which she approached him? Again, I say absolutely! Nonetheless, Elisabeth needs to come down off her high-horse and realize that she is not the only person in the United States of America who has the right to speak his or her mind. You can’t get on national television every single day and say whatever you want whenever you want about whoever you want and honestly expect that other people will not have a reaction about it.
