Former President Bill Clinton smiled and waved as he left Columbia Presbyterian hospital this morning, accompanied by his daughter Chelsea Clinton.

He was reportedly in “excellent health,” following his emergency procedure yesterday, and is now resting back home in Chappaqua, N.Y.

Bill Clinton‘s hospitalization earlier today following chest discomfort was successful.

Dr. Allan Schwartz, chief of cardiology at Columbia Presbyterian, told reporters former president Clinton’s heart procedure went “very smoothly.”

Schwartz added that Clinton was “up and walking around and visiting with his family. He’s in good spirits, and we hope to have him go home tomorrow.”

Mrs. Clinton’s scheduled trip to the Middle East will be postponed a couple of days.

President Obama called Clinton to wish him a speedy recovery.

FIRST UPDATE – 6:50PM (2/11/10)

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has left Washington to be with her husband as he recovers from hospitalization in New York.

Sources close to Mrs. Clinton said she still planned to travel to Qatar and Saudi Arabia on Friday as previously scheduled.

She was seen leaving the Oval Office after meeting with President Obama this afternoon when news broke of her husband’s trip to the hospital.

Two stents were installed in one of former president Bill Clinton‘s coronary arteries late this afternoon.

A just released statement from Clinton’s counselor Douglas Band says the patient is in “good spirits.”

“Today President Bill Clinton was admitted to the Columbia Campus of New York Presbyterian Hospital after feeling discomfort in his chest,” reads the statement. “Following a visit to his cardiologist, he underwent a procedure to place two stents in one of his coronary arteries.”

“President Clinton is in good spirits and will continue to focus on the work of his Foundation and Haiti’s relief and long-term recovery efforts.”

ABC News is reporting that former president Bill Clinton has been hospitalized in New York City.

Clinton was rushed to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan for a heart-related condition.

George Stephanopoulos reported it is “likely for a stent procedure.”

Meanwhile, sources told CNN Clinton had experienced chest pains.

A spokeswoman for the hospital had not heard anything yet.

Clinton had quadruple-bypass surgery in 2004.

    I am glad to hear he is okay! Clinton is like a favorite uncle always up to shenanigans but a good man at heart! He was the first Pres I voted for! I will continue to pray for his health.
