Beyonce Sings Surprise National Anthem at Super Bowl Press Conference (VIDEO)

Beyonce began the press conference for her Super Bowl halftime show with a surprise, live rendition of the national anthem, catching off guard a roomful of reporters primed to ask the singer about her controversial lip-synching at last week’s Presidential Inauguration.

When she concluded her a cappella performance, she asked the assembled journalists, “Any questions?”

Beyonce did clear up the conflicting reports about her Inaugural “Star-Spangled Banner.”

She explained that she’s a “perfectionist” who didn’t have adequate time to rehearse with the band, and that the magnitude of the event made things too important to leave completely to chance.

“Due to the weather, due to the delay, due to no proper sound check, I did not feel comfortable taking the risk…  I decided to sing along with my pre-recorded track, which is very common in the music industry,” said Beyonce, adding, “I’m very proud of my performance.”

When pressed, she clarified that she did actually sing during the Inauguration, along to the pre-recorded track.

As for the Super Bowl halftime show, Beyonce declared that she’ll “absolutely be singing live.”

“This is what I was born to do,” she explained.

Beyonce would not confirm rumors of a Destiny’s Child reunion at the big game — but her coy response certainly indicated that no one should rule out their presence during the show.

She also hinted at a tour announcement to come after the Super Bowl.

    Beyonce has a beautiful voice and altogether perfectly qualified to sing the National Anthem and/or anything else she desires to sing. She is a performer and that’s exactly what she did.

    I can understand why she lip-synched now. She is no Christina Aguilera, who might have fudged up a few words but was being true to herself when she sang and who sounds pronominal live.. Clearly Beyonce does not trust her voice enough to take such a chance. If the inauguration meant as much as she is saying here, then one would think she would want to remember her performance as genuine. Her performance would have been much more emotional if she had just gotten off her high horse, braved the weather as many other singers did that day, and just performed live. Personally I don’t see how a perfectionist would think it was acceptable to mime something so important to them and I have my doubts that a perfectionist would turn up to such a show with little to no time in rehearsal. To me that sounds like a person who doesn’t care and who is only in it for money. This whole little stunt here is again for her benefit only, as she tries to prove to everyone listening that she really can sing. This shows how self centered she is and cements the fact that she is fake. I would never pay money to see her live and anyone who does clearly has more money then sense.

    That’s werid. Especially based on the fact a LEGEND such as pattie labelle even said she would’ve done the same thing. And being that Whitney Houston herself CHRISTIAN’S IDOL even did not sing live. The new cofirmed themselves that Whitney sang that day to a dead mic…. You were saying? It isn’t
    About confidence. Noone has full confidence in themselves and the ones who say they do are lying. The national anthem isn’t something you fuck up. Christian evidently isn’t smart if she cat remember the words. People seem to not understand the fact she sang long with the song with her mic ON. the back track played. Te earth ckept spinning. Once people focus on more important things who can’t even sing themselves then the world will be a better place

    I liked the way Beyonce handled this press release, I thought it was clever of her to show everyone she can sing exceptionally well. I also hope that there’s a chance of seeing Destiny’s Child reunite on Sunday. I recorded this press conference because I was at work at DISH when it came on. I set up my DISH Hopper to record it; when I played it back I was able to start watching on my living room TV and then continued watching on my kitchen TV right where I left off. This made my housecleaning a lot more enjoyable.

    Yes go ahead and count I don’t think you will find that she needs it. Plus she clearly was not using auto-tune or a prerecorded track when she sang the national anthem, which is why I mentioned her. Personally I am of the believe that if a artist is going to be given the privilege of singing the anthem, that they should stand up and be authentic as they do it. Show the rest of the country why you deserve to be given such a huge platform. I’m sure there are many other artist who have enormous talent who would love to have such an opportunity and who would take pride in performing it live.

    Actually she did in fact use a back track AND auto tune on her album. And her live aware performances this past year. It was in articles every where so you should pay more attention cause everyone was tlaking about how terrible she sounded. Point IS beyonce can sing. And she’s proved that. Christina can sing but she has three times at the recent music awards used help. Beyonce PRE recorded hers and sang along with the MIC ON during the anthem. Doesn’t matter what people say you look stupid ring an adult and an American ad you screw up the words to the anthem which proves you didn’t deserve it. So noone can compare Christina at all. As as it was stated clearly before the LEGEND Whitney Houston didnt sing. She sang but her microphone was off the whole time and the recorded track played. So this argument is going nowhere. Pattie labelle the legend as well even said she wish she was smart and did exactly what beyonce did so she won’t ruin her voice next time. So the professionals have spoken. People need to go learn to sing themselves than trying to cities people who can’t in fact sing over this irrelevant crap. There is more mess to focus on in the world.

    If you think Beyonce has a fantastic voice, then you should
    considering getting hearing aids. I used Christina as an example of
    someone who was brave enough to get up and sing live. Something clearly the legends you rattle off were too scared to do themselves. It’s very easy not to get words muddle up when your Mic is turned down and the crowd is listening to a recording. Honestly I could stand there moving
    my mouth to a pre-recorded track and have a lovely digitally altered
    rendition of the national anthem appear to be coming from my mouth, but
    that wouldn’t prove I was talented, all it would show is that I’m a
    phony.
    Oh and unless you have an ability to judge someones singing
    talents through a written comment, maybe it’s best not to be making
    assumptions on if I can or cannot, in fact hold a tune. Considering you
    don’t actually know me, nor have you heard me sing. A person does not
    need to be a world class singer to have an opinion, I do have eyes and
    ears and that gives me just as much right as you or anyone else to state
    my opinion. Now please do have a great day because as you said there
    are much more important things happening in the world :)

    Sorry I stopped reading after the first sentence. Beyonce can clearly sing and the Grammy board along with he recount less album sells agree. Evidently you’re pressed and desperate for someone to hate on behind a computer screen. Once you understand that she was singing with the mic along with the track and legends even prove your argument invalid we can all move on.
