Did Beyonce Lip-Synch National Anthem at Inauguration? [UPDATED]

Beyonce’s powerful performance of the National Anthem at Monday’s Inauguration Ceremony was apparently lip-synched, although there are conflicting official versions of events.

On Tuesday, Master Sgt. Kristin DuBois of the U.S. Marine Band, which performed with Beyonce, informed reporters that the singer had decided to sing to a pre-recorded voice track rather than perform live.

“We performed, live, the band. But we received last-minute word that Beyonce was going to use the pre-recorded vocal track,” said DuBois. “Those were the instructions we were given. We don’t know what the reason why.”

But things got murkier late Tuesday, when a Marine Corps spokesperson backed off the original statement, saying that because the pop superstar had not rehearsed with the band, it was determined that the band’s pre-recorded track should be used during the performance for President Obama.

“Regarding Ms. Knowles-Carter’s vocal performance,” said Capt. Gregory Wolf, “no one in the Marine Band is in a position to assess whether it was live or pre-recorded.”

It should be noted that Wolf did not deny the reports that Beyonce had indeed lip-synched to pre-recorded vocals.

Meanwhile, representatives for Beyonce and the Inauguration organizers have not responded to requests for clarification.

News that Beyonce may have lip-synched surprised many, especially given the fact that Beyonce emotionally ripped out her earpiece at one point during the performance.

It’s standard procedure for all the music tied to the festivities to be pre-recorded in case conditions including poor weather complicate things for the live performers.

    First of all, I do not doubt her ability as it was her recording of herself and she has preformed enough to leave no doubts. We do not know what made for the last minute move; but, I think it was low to out her. Did she get nervous for it being such a prestigous moment? Not sure as she did sing to the fist lady and President Obama last time at the balls. All I know is that the ability to sing is evident and the reason for this…..unknown. The two thoughts allow me pause in a judgment of it being negative.

    Frankly, I think we could all do with trying to find an up side every now and then to things that are not serious to life. Like not wanting to mess up something this special.

    It’s wrong that singers receive so much money from their concert sales when they are not really singing. She lip syncs all of her concerts, so we really should not be surprised that she would not sing live at this event. Clearly she isn’t as confident in her singing voice and she would like to be make out she is. Having to sing to a pre recorded, edited and enhanced track, just goes to show how little talent she actually has. I guess those youtube videos of her real voice are true after all and the women really can’t hold a turn to save her life. When it comes down to it we are the ones who are idiots, paying out all the money we do to a talentless women who simply runs around a stage practically naked, just moving her lips. The joke is on us, she is the one laughing all the way to the bank.

    Some artists may lip sync some songs particularly when they have to dance such as Chris Brown, Usher, Bieber, Timberlake. Even M.J. is alleged to have lip synced in one concert. So it has a long history in pop and videos and concerts. See wikipedia, etc on lip sync

She’s always been beautiful to me a good role model to young girls so who cares. Even. Michael and Yo Yo ma even sang sometimes with back track. Eithe she ore recorded it or not her ass sung it.hence prerecorded I have more things to do with my life than talk shot bout celebs who either way are naming more money and are more successful than my ass.     What bothers me about it is if it had been done by someone else, someone who is not so chummy with the Obamas, she would be getting lots of negative press over it. Remember Ashley Simpson? And the PR person for the band that “performed” with her backtracking on their initial comment says it all. I’m sure the Obamas told them to take those comments back or else. She shouldn’t expect special treatment, it’s crappy to lip sync at such an important event. She intended to sucker everyone intothinking she sounds great live. My personal opinion, she doesn’t have one of the greatest voices anyways. So shame on her. I like her less now.

    Ok, no offence, and I mean it, but since when have black people blond hair?There are lots of white people who like African fashion, they dress like that, talk like that, etc, and it’s their way of life. But I personally believe that we should be proud of our heritage, wherever we came from, and I also believe every person who show off their respect and admiration of their race receives great respect from society. I have no respect for anyone who pretend to be somebody else, and even faking their potential.
    If she is proud to be African- American, she should not try to look like a white.
    And that goes vice versa for everyone.
    Maybe she simply doesn’t care.
