Beyonce “Lemonade” VMAs Video: Watch MTV Video Music Awards Performance!

Beyonce’s performance was originally intended to be a surprise. Her participation in this year’s MTV Video Music Awards was rumored last week, and on Saturday, two outlets confirmed it was a go, with it being said the superstar was in “top secret rehearsals” to pull off the gig. Then on Sunday evening, MTV officially announced she would indeed perform, and just over halfway through the show, she was introduced by pal and Lemonade guest star, Serena Williams.
It was a fitting appearance, given that the singer is the night’s most nominated artist. As Gossip Cop reported, Beyonce scored 11 nods when the nominations were announced last month. The videos for “Formation,” “Hold Up,” “Sorry,” and “Freedom” were all among the nominees, while the entire visual album Lemonade also scored a nod for Breakthrough Long Form Video, a category that is returning to the VMAs for the first time since 1991.
Over the course of her incredible career, Beyonce has won 16 VMAs, including the award show’s highest honor, the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, which she took home in 2014. In addition to that achievement, the star’s most memorable VMA moment likely occurred in 2011, when Beyonce revealed she was pregnant. Daughter Blue Ivy is now 4, and has been traveling with her famous mom around the globe for the “Formation World Tour,” which is set to start back up again next week.
