Beyonce CMA Awards Video: Watch “Daddy Lessons” CMAs Performance With Dixie Chicks!
Beyonce performed “Daddy Lessons” with the Dixie Chicks at the 2016 CMA Awards on Wednesday night. Watch below!
It’s not clear for how long the performance was in the works, but Beyonce was only announced as a performer for the 50th annual CMAs on Wednesday afternoon, just hours before the ceremony. With that big reveal, fans immediately concluded she’d likely sing “Daddy Lessons,” a country-influenced track off Lemonade. The superstar performed the song all summer on her “Formation Would Tour,” but this marks the first time she’s delivering the tune for a country audience.
And there’s a good chance they’ve already heard it. Back in May, Dierks Bentley said to the Associated Press, “There is just something intangible about it that it feels like a country song.” Karen Fairchild of Little Big Town even told the outlet she’d like to duet with Beyonce on the song. Other “Daddy Lessons” fans include Blake Shelton and Garth Brooks. Prior to tonight, the Dixie Chicks had covered it in concert.
Beyonce, who co-wrote the song, is a Texas native, though tonight’s CMAs are being held in Tennessee. The singer’s appearance marks her third big awards show performance this year. As Gossip Cop reported, she opened the BET Awards with “Freedom” back in June, and then performed a show-stopping Lemonade medley at August’s MTV Video Music Awards.
At the CMA Awards, she continues the Country Music Association’s trend of bringing in non-country performers. Justin Timberlake did a duet with Chris Stapleton at last year’s show, and Ariana Grande and Meghan Trainor both performed in 2013. Check out video of Beyonce’s performance below!
