Bette Midler: My Birthday Wish Is For Ariana Grande To Forgive Me
It’s Bette Midler’s 69th birthday on Monday, and she used the occasion to ask forgiveness from Ariana Grande, who she recently said in an interview doesn’t need to “whore out” herself to get ahead in the music industry. As Gossip Cop reported at the time, Midler told The Telegraph, “It’s terrible! It’s always surprising to see someone like Ariana Grande with that silly high voice, a very wholesome voice, slithering around on a couch… looking so ridiculous.” She added that her advice to Grande and other women trying to make it in the entertainment industry was “trust your talent. You don’t have to make a whore out of yourself to get ahead. You really don’t.”
Grande responded the next day by posting a picture on Twitter of Midler in a skimpy outfit, with the note, “Bette was always a feminist who stood for women being able to do whatever the F they wanted without judgement! Not sure where that Bette went but I want that sexy mermaid back!!!” Midler then added on Twitter that Grande “does have a beautiful voice, on a couch or off.”
Now, the veteran singer wants Grande to accept her apology, and even let her direct an upcoming music video. On Monday, Midler tweeted, “Yes, it’s my birthday! And my birthday wish is that @ArianaGrande me soon and let’s me direct her next video…” So far, Grande has yet to respond. What do you think of Midler’s apology and directing offer?
