VIDEO: Benedict Cumberbatch Gets Hilarious Baby Name Suggestions From Ellen DeGeneres, Talks “Cumberb*tches”
On Wednesday’s “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” which marked Cumberbatch’s first appearance on the program, the pair started off by talking about “Cumberb*tches,” the name Cumberbatch’s fans have given themselves, and the actor admitted it makes him “squirm a little.”
He revealed his mixed feelings on the nickname’s origins, saying, “I just went, ‘Ladies this is wonderful, and I’m flattered, but has this not set feminism back a little bit? Empower yourselves if you’re going to get silly with a guy’… But then they wrote back to me, ‘We didn’t mean any harm to feminism. We’re just having a bit of fun with your name.'”
That’s precisely what DeGeneres went on to do, sharing her ideas for what Cumberbatch and fiancée Sophie Hunter should name their upcoming arrival. “[With] your last name, Cumberbatch, you have to be careful with the first name,” she warned, before going on to throw out “Engelbert,” “Harpsichord,” “Glockenspiel,” and… “Carl.”
The stars also revealed their awkwardly funny backstage run-in at last year’s Oscars and discussed his amazing Golden Globes photobomb. Check out the video below!
