Benedict Cumberbatch debuts his full Doctor Strange costume in the first photo for the upcoming Marvel superhero movie. The actor also reveals new details about his role in an interview, and promises that “crazy s—” will be going down in the film. See the first look image below.
Cumberbatch is featured on the cover of this week’s Entertainment Weekly, which gives a behind-the-scenes look at the highly-anticipated comic book movie. In the film, Cumberbatch stars as Stephen Strange, a surgeon who is transformed into a sorcerer who defends the world against evil.
About taking on the character’s mystical mannerisms, the actor admits, “I’m still in the infancy of learning all that.” He explains, “I’ve got to keep throwing these poses, these spells, these rune-casting things, everything he does physically.” And as for the character’s signature hand gestures, Cumberbatch realizes, “There’s going to be a huge amount of speculation and intrigue over the positioning of [my] finger… And I’m still working on that.”
The movie began production in November, and is slated to continue shooting until March. Of the more action-packed and CGI-fueled sequences, Cumberbatch says, “We haven’t played any of those scenes yet,” but he assures, “There’s going to be crazy s— going on.”
