Truth rating: 10

Ben Affleck was named Best Director at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards on Thursday, just hours after he was snubbed by the Academy Awards.

The filmmaker failed to score an Oscar nomination from the Academy for his critically-acclaimed movie Argo, only to be rewarded for his efforts by the Broadcast Film Critics Association.

Affleck appeared stunned when his name was read, and went on to allude to this morning’s snub in his acceptance speech.

“I would like to thank the Academy,” he quipped. “I’m kidding, I’m kidding. This is the one that counts.”

And, at the end of the awards show, Argo was named Best Picture of the Year.

Gossip Cop will add video of Affleck’s acceptance speech later.

I saw Argo..it was the type of movie that usually gets a nod funny…it did not…

yeah right “this is the one that counts” but it’s not the one he wants lol

The movie itself didn’t, Affleck didn’t get one for directing.

But congrats to him on this win, I’m sure they’ll be plenty more.

Good! It’s a scandal he didn’t got a Academy nomination, but that only proves, that the nominations is bought by the Hollywood-Mafia. All those old geezers with their fat wallets, and limp dic*s!

    - I can’t stop wondering: who blow who to get a nomination?

  • chris

Hate to break it to you Ben, but you didn’t get the nomination because you aren’t that great of an actor. He is a male version of Jennifer Anniston. Sorry, but its true.

  • aga

But his movie got the nomination so he had to blow few but not enough ;)

  • jess

actually a very handsome celebrity who isnt full of himself…good job !

I really enjoyed the film. There is much fuss about him being “snubbed”. Well, doesn’t that insinuate that the Academy has something against him? Perhaps there were better directors. I know that I loved “Life of Pi”. It was the kind of film that I was grateful to see – a rarity. “Argo” was interesting, entertaining, and tight. But sometimes a film is just a really good film and that is that.

Good for him. He got robbed by the Oscars.

  • Sorry Ben

Maybe black balled due t his interest in Wash. D. C

  • Alana

But he was being snubbed as a director, not as an actor

  • bren

Remember all those times when Martin Scorsese didnt get a nod from oscar? I always thought Scorsese was a terrific director and he finally did win, but he never ever dissed the academy. Same with Spielberg. Both men have class.
