Ben Affleck: Jennifer Garner “Allowed” To Talk About Divorce, But Probably Won’t Again
As Gossip Cop has reported, Affleck and Garner announced last June that they are ending their marriage, though neither has filed for divorce yet. Neither had spoken about the separation until last month, when Garner’s Vanity Fair cover story was released. In it, she candidly opened up about the nanny cheating scandal surrounding their breakup, as well as how Affleck remains the “love of [her] life” though he’s a “complicated” person.
The interview painted the actor in a very mixed light, but he isn’t taking issue with it. “She felt like she wanted to discuss it and get it out there and get it over with, so she could say, ‘Look, I already talked about it — I don’t want to do it again,'” Affleck tells the New York Times. “It’s fine. She’s allowed to talk about it.”
He further says of Garner, “Jen’s great. She’s a great person. We’re on great terms. I just saw her this morning, so that’s the reality that I live in.” The movie star further reveals that they are planning to vacation in Europe as a family while he shoots Justice League. Still, Affleck acknowledges, “It never seems like a great time to have your privacy invaded. Obviously this is a particularly hard time.”
And while he’s obviously doing it here, Affleck also expresses reluctance to discuss his personal life “because it ends up being in the record somewhere, in the great miasma of junk on the Internet.” He does, however, laugh off Ricky Gervais’ Golden Globes joke, in which the host said “the only person who Ben Affleck hasn’t been unfaithful to” was best friend Matt Damon. “It’s the way Ricky Gervais perceives me, I suppose,” Affleck tells the newspaper while reportedly laughing. “Whatever. I’ve had jokes made at my expense before. It’s part of the deal.”
The star’s supportive comments only confirm Gossip Cop’s recent debunking of a RadarOnline story that falsely said Affleck was planning to do a “revenge interview” against Garner. It also backs up our busts of various tabloid reports wrongly claiming the estranged spouses are back together.
