VIDEO: Ben Affleck Gives Stirring People’s Choice Awards Acceptance Speech For Humanitarian Honor
Ben Affleck was named Favorite Humanitarian at Wednesday’s People’s Choice Awards, where the actor-director gave a stirring acceptance speech. Check out the video below.
Affleck’s friend and co-star Amy Adams introduced him, noting that the qualities that make him a professional success have also made Affleck an “extraordinary humanitarian.” She said Affleck puts his “heart and soul into everything he does,” including his work in and on behalf of the Eastern Congo.
After a short clip highlighting his efforts in the troubled region, Affleck took the stage to a standing ovation, calling it a “humbling” moment. He told the audience, “I’ve been called a lot of things in my life, but I’m not sure ‘humanitarian,’ until recently, was one of them.
Affleck said he was accepting the award on behalf of the “real humanitarians” with whom he’s worked, and whose “optimism and perseverance” inspire him.
He observed, “Sometimes the world is just a scary and terrible place, and bad things happen and they’re hard to understand, and they make us feel afraid and helpless. One thing I’ve learned… is that by trying to do just a little bit, whether it’s in our country or another country… the one way to combat the sad things we see, the terrible things we see, is to try and bring a little bit of kindness into the world.” Check out Ben Affleck’s humanitarian award acceptance speech from the People’s Choice Awards in the video below, and tell us what you think.
