Ben Affleck broke his social media silence on Monday, posting on Twitter and Facebook for the first time since it was announced he and Jennifer Garner are divorcing.

The messages, however, did not reference their marriage or split at all. On Facebook Affleck wrote, “Thank you Secretary John Kerry for appointing Tom Perriello as Special Envoy to Africa Great Lakes & ‪#‎DRC‬. Eastern Congo Initiative (ECI) partners look forward to working with him.” He similarly tweeted, “.@JohnKerry Thx for appointing Tom Perriello as Special Envoy, Africa Great Lakes & #DRC. @EasternCongo partners look fwd to working w/ him.”

Affleck co-founded the Eastern Congo Initiative in 2010, and has spent the last five years raising awareness about the poverty-stricken area. Garner has been involved, too, though in a limited capacity. Earlier this year, she and their eldest daughter Violet accompanied Affleck to Capitol Hill, where he spoke on the subject before a Senate subcommittee (see photo above).

Affleck and Garner announced last week that they are ending their marriage after 10 years together. At the time their joint statement was released, they were actually in the Bahamas with Violent, and their other two children, Seraphina and Samuel. Both have expressed a desire to co-parent, although they returned to the U.S. on Monday separately. Gossip Cop will continue to have updates.
