“Beauty And The Beast” Wins Box Office, Breaks March Record
There’s a new belle of the box office ball, and she’s quite the beauty. Beauty And The Beast won the weekend with a record-breaking opening. Get the details, and check out the full Top 10 below!
As Gossip Cop has reported, the live-action remake of the beloved Disney animated movie stars Emma Watson and Dan Stevens in the title roles. The all-star cast also includes Luke Evans, Josh Gad, Audra McDonald, Kevin Kline, and Ewan McGregor. It may be a tale as old as time, but moviegoers were spellbound. Beauty And The Beast debuted with $170 million, which made it the highest-grossing March opening of all time.
Perhaps needless to say, but with that beast of a debut, there was a big gap between numbers one and two for this weekend’s rankings. Last week’s chart-topper, Kong: Skull Island, is no longer king, and had to settle for a second-place finish with $29 million. Hugh Jackman’s Logan followed in third, thanks to ticket sales of $17.5 million. With $13.2 million in receipts, the horror hit Get Out nabbed the fourth spot. And coming in fifth was The Shack, with $6.1 million.
Rounding out the Top 10 were The Lego Batman Movie in sixth with $4.7 million, while the new thriller The Belko Experiment secured seventh place with $4 million. Taking the eighth position was Hidden Figures with $1.5 million. And John Wick: Chapter 2 finished in ninth with $1.2 million. Just making it into the Top 10 was Before I Fall. The movie earned $1 million.
